After hearing Rumours of the New MacMini that was to come, it is finally here...
I dont see the built-in PVR/DVR I was promised by the rumours, but I do see Apples Front Row which will act similarly in the effect of allowing you to use the MacMini as your new MultiMedia PC hooked up to your Television...
at 4 times the speed of the old MacMini. The new MacMini has an Intel Dual Core Processor kicking it up that extra notch!!!
I am and always will be a "Mac Guy".
As a matter of fact, I have been that "Mac Guy" for a long time... the one that knew it all about what Apple was doing, and always up-to-date on the latest bugs and issues... After taking a break from the Computer Consulting/Integration field, I found my Mac losing its speed...
I made a big mistake, I set up a PC right next to my aging Mac... the speed of the PC at the time had me using it more and more and slowly as I had issues running MacOSX on my now again Beige G3 Tower I dreaded going back to Mac OS9 for the speed boost due to some incompatability with my Ultra-SCSI2 Card and OSX which caused instabilities with the systems Hard Drives... Hacking OSX to use an update ATI Radeon 7000 for QuartzExtreme gave my Mac that needed speed boost of a new machine, but when your talking about a Mac that is double the age of the PC's people are throwing away, its not as much fun as it used to be.
So sadly I fell into the speed and lack of cash trap.
No way I was going to drop another $3000+ on a new souped up Mac, especially when I was running my Computing company and had more PC's laying around then I could shake a stick at... so into the darkness of Micro$loth-land I went... Not happily mind you...
A Mac Job here and there fixing these systems was enough of the Steve I needed to get my Apple Fix... Even now I am typing this on a WinXP based system...
The emergence of a new partnership between Apple and Intel had me even more interested then I was before...
Now Apple suddenly is doing something "different" once again.
See, I am torn in two ways...
Yes, I hate PCs, but thats because I know them so well... My hatred stems from the Wintel boxes I had the misfortune of working, repairing, integrating, messing up over the years...
See that old statement? Wintel??? Well now its a New Dawning Era!!! MacTel is here....
The intel in Wintel no longer bothers me as much.
See, during my many trips to Israel, I found out that alot of the development of the Pentium processor and up until todays Dual Core processor was done over there. So now I am once again torn... see the hatred for Intel, seeing them as a puppet in Microsofts original theft of the Mac System with Windows in an alliance I thought was against Apple, the best computer company in the world. So here I have Intel, which is helping the economy of Israel, a country I consider my own as a Jew, and Intel helps out its citizens... while on the other hand I still saw it as the accomplice to Microsofts devillish ways...
Conflicted here.... no?
Well now a New day has dawned on my thoughts of Intel.
See when I was running my Computer Company back not so long ago... There was nothing better then an Asus Motherboard and an Intel Processor...
Who wants AMD anyways?
Now once again I can get that feeling as the new Partnershp of Apple and Intel comes together in something I can see as a blessing for both companies.
Finally Apple has a processor that boosts their systems up an easy 4-5X depending on model, and now Finally Intel can have the pride of having their processors in the Best Computers out there!!!
A Win, Win situation for me here...
Am I nuts? well if you read this far then I think you might be just as nuts... all this rambling because I want to buy a new Mac!!!
Well even though they managed to raise the price $100 US from $499 to $599, I am still OK with this.
So here are the other pictures I should've dropped in further up in the article...
Ain't this such a great machine?
Now is going to be a great time to grab one of those old MacMinis with a G4 in them for a couple hundred bucks I figure...
that should tide me over until all of the software has gone universal binary and then in 5 years the G4/5 is history and is no longer supported
