This is an idea for web-app and to push its development further for future use.
MySQL database integration for Web-App.
The concept behind this is for those using web-app on a busy site and suffering from delays which are starting to hinder performance.
Just look at this site, there is hardly anyone here and it stutters here and there just loading the front page... My thought is that if the database was MySQL based (or some other free database server), then the delays would disappear...
Large amount of Users? instant speed-boost by integrating your site with an updated database module would breath new Life into your slowing down site.
With the advent of PHP-based sites web-app needs a future "upgrade" path to ensure its viability. (that will be the next post in the ideas forum)
This should be an easy integration where the existing data in the /db folder would be automatically converted to the necessary information to create an SQL database, making the switch instantaneous.
Also, this MySQL Upgrade should be "downgradeable" in the case one wants to go back to flat-file. Also the mod cannot be "destructive" to the original /db folder as it should be able to be turned off without "killing" the site.
There are existing open-source database scripts for this exact purpose in mind, converting one for this use should'nt be a major job, possibly only editing or temporarily replacing the config.pl file to point to the new database structure information is all thats needed...
Think this is a good idea? Want to see it become reality? Post your thoughts here!!!
